Here at Carla’s Curiosities we love love love Halloween!
The crispness of the air as we enter autumn and the way that natures colours change from green to oranges and reds, and for me, the anticipation of the excitement of the night itself.
In the run up to Halloween, I love making a big fresh bowl of popcorn, with melted butter, sugar and salt and cosying up to watch my favourite scary movies. If you haven’t already seen, I recommend watching Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. It’s a 1922 silent German expressionist horror film directed by F. W. Murnau and starring Max Schreck as Count Orlok. Iconic! I’m sure this inspired much of my early curiosity in curio – and vampires.
Even if you don’t like scary movies, there are many reasons to enjoy Halloween. For many it’s a season that conjures up the nostalgia of childhood, playing dress-up and trick or treat. For others it evokes a magical time of social gatherings and a chance to connect with neighbours, the community spirit always seems to be high at this time of year.
However for me, my curiosity about all things vampire, about Nosferatu, the thrills of a great vampire movie and the chance to get creative and dress up as one myself, have to be top of my Halloween favourites list. Plus of course, Halloween provides the perfect opportunity for me to talk about some of my really special curio.
If you’ve visited my curio page you’ll know I have some great off the wall objects, all rare, unusual and intriguing pieces, with some making perfect presents for the vampire slayer in your life.

- And last but not least, an absolute favourite of mine, Nosferatu himself, set as a cold-cast bronze plaque for wall mounting, or hanging outside, guaranteed to put the fear into anyone knocking on your door that night.
